Hello!
Spring is coming on fast! The geese are on the
move and the songbirds are beginning to make
their springtime calls from the treetops. We
have seen several Killdeer already scouting
around the winery for a spot to lay their eggs.
Because of the snow and cold, we are way behind
on our pruning -- heck, we haven't even
started!
Daylight saving time begins on the 14th
of this month, however, so we'll soon have more
daylight in the evening to get our work done.
We are looking forward to the pleasant days
ahead when we can sit outside at a table or
under the arbor with a glass of wine and a
picnic! Below are some of the events we have
planned for this month. We hope you can join us
soon!

|
Saturday,
March
6th, 1:00 pm, Kansas vs. Missouri Basketball
and Gourmet Franks!
|
|
Come out to the
winery, relax in our auditorium, and watch the
Tigers battle the Jayhawks while you enjoy a
bottle of wine or a cold domestic or imported
beer. In addition to our regular tasting room
fare we'll have steaming gourmet franks for
sale. These are not just any hot dog -- these
are quarter-pound Homemade Knockwurst from
Bichelmeyer Meats in Kansas City! The
Knockwurst will be served in a soft poppy seed
bun made from scratch in the Riverwood kitchen,
along with a bag of kettle-cooked chips. We'll
have a selection of toppings available (diced
tomatoes, chopped red onion, jalapenos, shredded
cheese, ketchup, mustard, mayo) so you can make
your own Chicago-style treat! We'll also have
available fresh from our kitchen
hot buttered pretzels sprinkled with sea
salt! Ahhhhhh -- just imagine -- a steaming
Knockwurst in a soft
poppy seed bun, a hot buttered pretzel, a
glass of wine or a cold beer, good friends and
family, and a great basketball game!
Knockwurst -- $6.50
Hot Buttered Pretzel with Sea Salt -- $1.50

Sunday, March 14th,
1:00 - 4:00 pm,
Soup Sunday,
Hot and Sour Soup served with wild-caught
Gulf Shrimp, $8.00.
|
|
This is one of
our favorite soups with its earthy mushrooms,
creamy tofu, tender strips of
pork loin and other delicious
ingredients! Served with steamed wild-caught
Gulf shrimp and
Club Crackers on the side, this will be a
full meal! Pairing a wine with this soup is a
challenge. We recommend a crisper white wine
such as our Vidal/Seyval blend, or perhaps one
of our international wines such as a
Gruner Veltliner from Austria or a
Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. Maybe
also a cold
India Pale Ale from
Great Britain or a Belgian ale!
|
Saturday,
March 20th, 1:00 - 4:00 pm, Live Music with
Jeff Lux, Free!
|
Come out for a great live musical performance by
local musician Jeff Lux on the patio or in the
auditorium (depending upon the weather). Learn
more about Jeff and his outstanding music at his
website --
www.jefflux.com.
|
Sunday, March 21st, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.,
NCAA Tournament!
|
|
We will have the games on in the auditorium so
you won't miss a thing. Cheer on your favorite
team while you enjoy a bottle of wine or a beer
and a hot buttered pretzel!
|
Saturday, March 27th, 1:00 - 4:00
p.m., Live Music with Dan Bliss, Free!
|
Enjoy live music performed by one of the great
guitarists from
Kansas City. If the weather is nice Dan
will play outside under the arbor or on the
patio -- if not he'll be in the auditorium.
Dan's deep, rich guitar tones and voice will
keep you enthralled! Check out Dan's website at
www.danbliss.com.

Sunday,
March
28th, 1:00 - 4:00 pm., International Wine
Tasting -- Wines for Easter Dinner -- Free!
|
|
Looking for a
good wine to serve with roast ham or leg of
lamb? At this tasting we'll have three wines
that will pair well with a sweet and salty roast
ham (for sure we'll have a Riesling and a
Gewurztraminer) and three to pair with roast
lamb (perhaps Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon,
Shiraz). Tastings are free and the wines will
be available for purchase at the winery. Relax
with one of the wines and a selection of cheese
and sausage from our refrigerator case or a hot
buttered pretzel while you watch the NCAA
Tournament on the large screen in the
auditorium. If you wish you are welcome to
bring out your own picnic. Of course we
encourage you to do a free tasting of
Riverwood wines as well!

|
Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!
